Way To Go, Caryn Johnson.

I see it's been nearly a fortnight since I last posted something new, so I thought what better time to get back into the swing than to say...

I was right.

Yup, I boldly predicted that WKTU would eventually carry the syndicated Whoopi Goldberg morning program, which for the record, is titled "Wake Up With Whoopi". You would think such a show would be based on the West Coast, and it probably is - but its 5-9 AM ET live feed got me thinking, and led me to that bold prediction.

And with all due respect to Baltazar and Goomba Johnny, their novelty wore off after about five years. Surely they'll land another gig soon... and this leads to my next bold prediction here on the BARB... Mornings at WNEW-FM. You know, the "new" Mix 102.7 - who's stocked up on pretty much every other WKTU castaway they could get their hands on... To be honest, I don't even listen to 102.7 in the morning - correct me if I'm wrong, is Rick Stacy still there? Anyway, at least locally, "B&G" are familiar to New Yorkers.

Actually, let me now alter my bold prediction here - oh yeah, "B&G" are still headed for 'NEW. But not in mornings - they'd be in direct competition with Opie & Anthony on brother station 92.3 (and clearly 102.7 is the "sister" station in this family). So it would make sense for "B&G" to do afternoons on 102.7 - four years removed from their last afternoon duo now on 92.3 in the morning. Hey, CBS, aren't you glad Stern's gone now?

The Big Apple Radio Blog. I may not post regularly. But when I do post, it's right.

WDTW Prediction...

Well, the announcement will be made at 3 PM ET today, and with roughly 1 1/2 hours before the switch is flipped, despite all the "brew" references, my prediction is... "The Buzz".

I've checked and there is no domain registered (as of yesterday) to reflect "Brew" on 106.7. Yet 1067thebuzz.com redirects to 1067needshelp.com. Although I've noticed they've been playing quite a bit of country lately. And about four of the CC 1067 domains redirect to the same Classic Country station in Arkansas. So maybe it's that... Heck, maybe it's Christmas music, I have no idea...

Jake (And Jackie?) Start at Sirius Monday

Click ______here______ to view the latest "video" via JakeFogelnest.com.

It's a little graphic verbally - also, if you can't stomach the image of the late Wolfman Jack, this link may not be for you, either...

What concerns me, though, is there's no mention of Jackie Clarke in it. Which leads me to believe he might be just DJ-ing a rock channel on Sirius - you know, the way it used to be for Jakey before 92.3 flipped from "great rock" to "free rock with a lot of chatter mixed in"... Anyway, if you have any questions as to Jackie's whereabouts, she has a website, too, ya know...

1067NeedsHelp.com (Detroit) - Followup

So I'm searching for any recently registered domains with the word "brew" in them - liners started playing about a new radio station being "brewed" etc...

However, after searching domains with 1067 in them, I came across 1067thebuzz.com - which redirects to 1067needshelps.com.

So I went to mibuzzboard.com to see if this was mentioned over there - come to find out that when 1067 flipped from Alice to Drive, they were rumored to go to "The Buzz" and that domain was registered since back then.

You can listen along online:

106.7 Needs Help.

Noooo, I'm not talking about WLTW.

Actually, I'm one call letter off - WDTW. In Detroit.

Seems as if Clear Channel has taken their lemon known as "The Drive" off the road in favor of a temporary "Jack" format in which listeners "control" the playlist, and can "be a part of Detroit radio history" upon the new format on that frequency. I think it's a tad automated, but if you want to "vote" for your five favorite songs, go to http://www.1067needshelp.com .

Quick, someone register the domain 1011needshelp.com ...

O&A To Start Singing "Sweet Home Chicago"?

So Rover's been missing time this week due to a stomach ailment. That I'm not doubting.

Meanwhile, on Opie & Anthony this morning - with one Joel Hollander sitting in - Opie hinted that Chicago might be one of the show's next markets.

Recall that O&A aired on tape delay on WCKG in Chicago years ago. Plus WCKG has announced changes to the lineup regarding their midday show - Stan and Terry get an extra hour starting Monday. That plus the fact that Jim Cramer remains at noon local time "for now".

Hmmm...

As Predicted: Stern Putting Out His Feelers For Terrestrial

Dear Howard,

Yeah, I know, you rule, whatever... The subscription records don't seem to sync up with that statement... Which is why, I'm sure, you've chosen to dabble in the forbidden terrestrial radio waters once again, with that Sully guy from Citadel, soon-to-be Citadel/ABC... Everyone's talking about it...

But little did you know - it's not your idea, Howie... I predicted this just hours after your arch-nemeses, Opie & Anthony, returned to terrestrial radio, on your old stations, in your old studio, thorns in your side. And as someone who's observed this market for years, I know darn well you'd like to stick it to them again, just as you did when you trumped their satellite deal with your own announcement, yes?

They say you invented radio, Howard, and that you've got lots of original ideas. But Howard, if - no, when you return to terrestrial radio - say, this summer? - you owe me that one.

And bababooey to y'all,
Diamond Joe

Whoopi's New Satellite Sister Act.

Dear Ms. Goldberg,

Congratulations, I hear that you're going to be hosting a new morning show. That's terrific. You've made Goomba and Baltazar start looking over their shoulders even more.

Let me ask you something: How much prior radio experience have you had?

Interesting - that's the same amount of experience that David Lee Roth had - and he didn't exactly translate into time well spent, did he?

But since one of your trades is comedy, you've got that going for you. Comedians seem to do a good job on radio. Steve Harvey - your competitor in a few cities in the future, I'm sure - he's got a heavyweight morning show... Adam Carolla has a mornign show out west... Pam Stone has a marginally successful midday show down South...

Anyway, I have just this small bit of advice for your new morning show: No sidekicks named "Animal", no spontaneous guitar solos, and no "ethnic music".

Say hi to Ted for me,
Diamond Joe

Star Is An Idiot.

Dear Mr. Torain:

Now I realize one of the things "shock jocks" do is say adverse things on the air. That's kinda their job. But come on, didn't you learn from that incident over at Hot 97? Slamming one of your advertisers on the air? I believe it was a major telephone company?

Anyway, that doesn't compare to threatening to "violate" the offspring of a crosstown DJ, and to have threaten anyone's life on the air just makes you a bigger buffoon than I thought.

If I wanted to hear intimidating figures on a morning show, I'll tune into Curtis & Kuby.

Thanks,
Diamond Joe

The Latest 92.3 Buzz: Fez or Fuzz?

As of this moment, evenings are wide open at 92.3 Free FM, what with Booker going to Philadelphia, and Jake & Jackie fleeing for Sirius. (By the way, J&J, say hi to Cousin Brucie for me.)

It's no secret that WFNY is in pursuit of a new evening talk show. Most speculate that it will go to Ron & Fez, simply because most of the other camaraderie of the old WNEW-FM "Dream Team" (Opie & Anthony, Leslie Gold and crew) are in place. But those outside of Washington D.C. may not recall that R&F had a falling out with CBS management while at their last terrestrial job at WJFK. They're currently entrenched at XM, although Opie had hinted on the air that they, too, are Free-FM bound. Of course, Opie has bluffed a time or two on the air, so don't take the bait just yet...

Dateline - Morristown, New Jersey: The morning team of Matt & Fuzz are gone from WDHA-FM and replaced by Jim Monaghan from the old classic rock WNEW-FM. Granted, M&F didn't do anything of "Sex for Sam" or even "Jersey Guys" proportions to set the radio world afire. It's possible they're keeping it hush-hush until they announce they're taking their show to 92.3, evenings.

If I were to choose between Ron & Fez or Matt & Fuzz joining 92.3, I'd choose both. Remember, Ron & Fez were heard in virtually every daypart on WNEW before and after O&A were booted in 2002. They can fit in at 7 PM, or at the very first timeslot they broadcast from on WNEW back in 2001, 11 PM. But if I were a gambling man, I'd say Matt & Fuzz will follow the "CBC" three-ring circus at 7 PM. Starting Monday, May 8, perhaps.
